Background
Maura Westren is the third child in the Westren family, with two older brothers (Nathan and Joseph) and a younger sister (Hannah). From a very young age, she wanted to be an officer and follow in her father's footsteps.
Maura had a natural gift for math and science, and her dream was to join the Navy's Aerospace R&D division and design new fighter craft. She went off to the Fleet Academy and studied aerospace engineering. During her time at the academy, Maura got the opportunity to ride along on some Raptor flights, and she was hooked. Forget designing these things - she wanted to fly them! After graduation, she went off to become a Raptor pilot.
After a few boring assignments, Maura ended up in the air wing on the Battlestar Triton. When the Cylons attacked, Maura was ferrying a visiting Admiral back to his ship in her Raptor. They jumped right into hell, finding themselves in Sagittaron space in the middle of a huge battle.
Maura tried to make it to the Admiral's ship, but her Raptor was badly damaged by a Raider missile. She only barely managed to bring it down in one piece on the surface of Sagittaron, in the woods outside Nysa. The Admiral was killed, and her ECO died of his injuries a short time later. When the attacks died down, she ventured into the city. Fortunately the resistance found her before the Toasters did.
Maura had never been much of a fighter, but she learned quickly. It was also hard for her to adapt to a paramilitary unit that didn't abide by the regulations and protocols that were so near and dear to her heart. (Her callsign, "Straight Arrow", later shortened to just "Arrow", came from her dogged adherence to the regs.)
The idea of working alongside former terrorists made her skin crawl, but what choice did she have? At least they were fighting. Maura still clashes sometimes with some of the more radical members of the group, but deep down she knows they're all on the same side. For now.
IC Events
Maura became the de-facto commander of the Sagittaron resistance band in Nysa after the apparent death of Malcolm.
She forged a friendship with Lieutenant Limmer, commander of the Pacifica marine party that crash-landed on Sag,
and the two of them led a number of raids against the Cylons, culminating in the Pacifica's rescue mission.
After returning to Pacifica, Maura adopted Max and began rebuilding her relationship with her estranged sister.
One Year Later
Maura was originally going to stay on Pacifica, deeming it a better environment for her adopted son Max. But then "Grandpa" Gus went (unbeknownst to Maura) and built them a log cabin in the forest. Maura transferred to Snake squadron, where she was assigned as squadron XO, and now lives in the woods with Max and Gus. The Westren sisters seem to have worked out their differences. They hang out, often on the pyramid court, when their duty schedules permit
Finale
Max and Maura left Picon with the Atalanta, becoming part of the first settlement wave on New Pacifica. There, a new house was built with Gus, and three continued to live as a family. Maura would eventually meet and marry Nathan Miller, a former marine sergeant turned high school teacher (history and gym) who was on the same pyramid team as the Westren sisters. She would stay in the Navy as an engineer, designing new defense systems. Her flying days, but for pleasure flights, she would leave behind her. They would have two children of their own, Sean and David, who would follow their parents into the military.
Max grew in a capable adult, eventually becoming a civil engineer. His designs would go into bridges, buildings and roadways. He also joined the Fleet Reserves, eventually earning the rank of Captain. Never the most social of creatures, he nonetheless had a few serious of relationships, but at the age of thirty-two, remained single. It was at that time that Cherish Glyph-Limmer, just turned eighteen and as confident as her mother, announced to a shocked Max and the world at large that she wanted him. What followed was five years of pursuit, arguments, political and philosophical discussions, and occasional fist-fights, started by none other than Cherish herself. It was one of those fights that led to their first kiss, and within a year, Max ceased all signs of resistance. They were married, per Cherish's request, on the shore of a lake. Corbett, secretly amused, reacted with indifference to the whole affair, while Maura frowned at first (until she got over the age difference and saw how happy her son was.) But at least they seem happy.
