Played on Battlestar Pacifica MUSH (2006-2007)
Full Name: Captain Mira Handel
Known as: Mira, Doc
Birthplace: Sagittaron
Occupation: Doctor
Hobbies/Interests: Stick in the mud

Background

With their hooks in industry and politics, the Handels are one of the more prominent families on Sagitarron. But every family has it's black sheep, and Mira's mother - Marie - was that person. Marie despised the wealth and power associated with her family's position, and once she was old enough to move out on her own, she never took a single cubit from them. She kept out of the limelight, and faded into obscurity despite her famous name. Mira's mother never married, and Mira does not speak about her father ever.

Mira was always the quiet one, followed all the rules, did well in school - the whole nine yards. From the time she was a little girl, she wanted one thing more than anything - to be a doctor. She worked hard towards that goal, almost to the exclusion of all else.

It is perhaps ironic that the granddaughter of one of the richest families on Sagitarron couldn't afford to go to medical school. But when Marie shunned her family's inheritance, Mira got shafted as well. An academic scholarship helped a little bit, but it wasn't enough. She saw her dreams evaporating, until she saw a recruiting ad for the Colonial Fleet.

Mira took to military life like a duck to water. The structured life, the rules, the protocol - it really suited her. And she loved being a doctor. She finished her residency, and technically her committment to the Fleet was over. But she elected to stay in, made Captain, and was transferred to the Pacifica.

IC Events

Mira had been aboard the Pacifica for about six months prior to the attacks. She is one of the senior doctors in sickbay, and for a short time was acting Chief Medical Officer when the previous CMO (Major Paolin) was killed and Dr. Viktor Fox was incapacitated. She's known as a by-the-book officer, sometimes to the point of being a hard-ass, but underneath it all she is committed to her patients.

She was friends with Bailey, but they drifted apart after he became XO. She hasn't spoken to him since the mutiny. She kept to herself, mostly, throwing herself into her work until she and Judge Miles Scythrop discovered an abandoned baby on the Dream. Baby Jack gave Mira newfound purpose, and she became increasingly attached to the boy while helping Miles settle into his newfound fatherhood.

Her marriage to Miles (on 233AD) was initially purely for Jack's sake, to give him a stable family with a mother and father. But she has since developed a true affection for her husband, realizing that they have a lot in common.

Mira was thrown for a loop when a man claiming to be her father appeared in the fleet, a small-time crook named Paul Guevera with ties to the SFM. Mira never really made a connection with him, judging "family" based on actions, not blood. She never did find out what happened to him.

Finale

When Pacifica began to resettle Picon, Miles' job took him to the surface. Mira turned down a chance to be Chief Medical Officer of Pacifica, and instead transferred to Picon to help run the hospital there.

After the Cylons returned, Mira, Miles and Jack returned to the fleet. She worked in Siren's sickbay for awhile, ultimately settling down on New Pacifica with her family. Jack gained two sisters over the years, Mira and Miles' contribution to the gene pool. All three Scythrop children were ultimately dismayed by their parents' generally boring nature, but they were good parents, and their kids turned out okay. Mira stayed a military physician until her retirement, and continued to teach medicine afterwards. Miles mustered out of the military, and eventually became the new colony's first Chief Justice.
